We are providing this information because of the impact that this government policy change may have on citizens in our region who still receive Social Security benefit paper checks or other government paper checks in the mail.

Paper check dissolving

The U.S. Department of the Treasury has announced that the federal government will stop issuing paper checks for most federal payments on September 30, 2025. If you are one of the few people who still receives a federal benefit paper check, it’s time to switch to an electronic payment method.

No action is required for most Americans who already receive federal benefit payments electronically.

However, if you are still receiving a paper check for Social Security, Veterans benefits, or any other Federal benefit, you need to enroll in direct deposit. Here is a quick and easy solution. Open a checking account at The Bank of Marion or any of our full-service branches across the region.

Please always beware of government impersonation scams. Before responding to a request, check it out and verify it by contacting the agency using a website or phone number you know is real. If you’re unsure, you can ask us for help.

Direct deposit is a safer, faster, more convenient way of receiving government benefits. Don’t delay—make the switch to an electronic payment method today!
